The Carbon Tax on vehicles will not be levied from next year, Transport and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Ashok Abeysinghe said. He said the Finance Ministry agreed to the proposal he made in this regard to stop levying the tax. He was speaking at the National Road Safety Meeting held in Kurunegala on July 20.
The Carbon Tax was introduced this year. The Deputy Minister said it is unfair to levy the tax only from vehicles, while many industries and other places emit a high quantity of carbon daily. He said the decision to abolish the tax will be announced very soon.
National Council for Road Safety Chairman Sisira Kodagoda and officers of the Kurunegala Police Traffic Division, School Bus Association, three wheeler committees and many others participated.
