Army corporal ordered to be remanded

Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate C.H.G Liyanage yesterday ordered to remand former Army Intelligence corporal Lalith Rajapakse in connection with the abduction and assault of former The Nation Deputy Editor Keith Noyahr till August 1.

The Criminal Investigations Department yesterday informed court that the suspect was arrested following instructions given by the Attorney General.

An Army officer who worked at the safe house in Baduwatta in Dompe, had revealed that former Army Intelligence Corporal Rajapaksa had taken a person to the safe house. The CID stated that he was an eye witness in this case.

The attorney appearing on behalf of the suspect pleaded for an identification parade.

Major Prabath Dissanayake Bulathwatta, former Military Intelligence Director and Army Chief of Staff Amal Karunasekara and the other six suspects arrested over this incident are currently out on bail.
