Three nabbed while transporting Kendu and tobacco leaves

Naval personnel held 03 persons who were illegally transporting Kendu (Beedi) and tobacco leaves, at Mandativu junction in Jaffna in the early morning yesterday.

Accordingly, a suspicious lorry had been searched at the road block in Mandativu junction manned by Northern Naval Command and 1359kg of Kendu leaves packed in 44 parcels and 1034kg of tobacco leaves packed in 31 parcels which were being transported to Jaffna from Kayts by the lorry were apprehended with 03 persons. The suspects are residents of Galewela area aged 37 and 47.

The suspects, Kendu and tobacco leaves and the lorry are due to be handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs-Jaffna for further investigation.
