‘Kosgoda’ Tharaka’s accomplices nabbed

Five hardcore members of the Colombo underworld were arrested by the Kalutara North Police on Monday while they were returning to Colombo after visiting one of their gang members identified as a ‘Full Face’ Dilshan who is an inmate of the Malwatte Remand Prison.

A walkie talkie of the Sri Lanka Army, the electronic room key of a Colombo hotel, 2,600 mg of heroin, five mobile phones and Rs.100,000 in cash were found hidden inside the car in which they were travelling.

The arrests occurred after two sharp-eyed traffic police constables of the Kalutara North Police, while at a fuel station to re-fuel their motorcycle, had seen a person in the front seat of a car talking over a walkie-talkie.

The policemen gave chase on their bike and were able to stop the car. The occupants had attempted to bribe the two officers, namely PC Saminda and a Police Sergeant, to avoid arrest.

The two policemen however detained the car and informed the acting OIC of the Kalutara North Police regarding the matter. He rushed to the location with an armed police party and arrested the five suspects. The suspects have been identified as accomplices of noted underworld figure ‘Kosgoda’ Tharaka.

The car with the five suspects was taken to the Kalutara North Police Station where the suspects were arrested. The Kalutara North Police has informed Police Headquarters about the detection made by the Kalutara North PoliceTraffic Branch officers.
