Speaker should contest Presidential Election: NMSJ

The National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) yesterday said that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya should contest the next Presidential Election.

Puttalam District National Movement for Social Justice Organiser Nimal Warnakulasuriya, at a media briefing in Colombo, said that Karu Jayasuriya was the preferred person by late Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera to run as the common candidate at the 2015 Presidential Election.

“Our common goal was to abolish the Executive Presidency and it could not be achieved because another common candidate was presented for the election that year.”

He said the NMSJ would fully support Speaker Karu Jayasuriya if he decided to contest either as the United National Party (UNP) candidate or as the common candidate.
