A father and his daughter were killed on the spot at an unprotected railway crossing in Wadurawa, Veyangoda yesterday.
The 42-year-old father, Manel Ruwan Sanjeewa Chinthaka Silva and his 11-year-old daughter Roosali Dilangsa Silva died on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a train travelling to Kankasanthurai at the Wadurawa level crossing in the Veyangoda Police Division, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said. The accident had occurred around 6.45 a.m. last morning.
The victims are residents of Sandun Uyana, Kotugoda and Ja-Ela. The remains of the deceased are currently placed at the Wathupitiwala Hospital. The family had attended an alms giving at a relative’s home and the father was bringing his daughter to school when the accident had occurred. Veyangoda Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
