Dr. Shafi further remanded

DSG says his three-month Detention Order withdrawn:


Dr Mohamed Shafi of the Kurunegala Hospital was further remanded till July 25 by Kurunegala Magistrate Sampath Kariywasam.

Dr. Shafi was produced before the Magistrate by CID officers yesterday morning. Dr. Shafi is accused of allegedly amassing assets through suspicious means. His case was taken up for hearing yesterday. Deputy Solicitor General Thusith Mudalige told the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court that the three-month detention order against Dr. Shafi has been withdrawn as the evidence presented against him was inadequate to prove that he was linked to terrorist activities, DSG Mudalige who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, cited the three-month detention order against Dr. Shafi was withdrawn on Wednesday after the Defence Ministry had informed that the evidence against Dr. Shafi was inadequate to prove that he had received funds from a terrorist organization to promote their activities.

The DSG informed the court that the accusations against Dr Shafi are being thoroughly investigated.

The DSG said that statements should be recorded from mothers who had lodged complaints citing that the doctor performed suspicious caesarean section on them.
