Army spikers emerged champions beating a strong Air Force team 3-0 in the finals of the volleyball championship conducted by the St. Xavier’s Collge, Maravila and held at the St. Xavier’s College courts recently.
Some of the country’s top teams including Navy, Police Army and Air Force competed in the tournament.
Army maintained a superb record throughout the tournament and beat Air Force 2-0 in the preliminary round, Navy 2-0 in the semifinals and Air Force in the finals.
Lance Corporal W.M.D.P. Muhandiram of Army was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament while his team mate R.M. Silva was picked as the Best Libero Player. Lance Corporal A.S.S.W. Masachchi of Army won the Best Setter of the tournament award.
The champion Army team was captained by Lance Corporal W.M.D.P. Muhandiram and coached by Sergeant W.P.M. Thisera.
