National Schools’ teachers to get places for their children

Teachers completing three years service in a National School will be allowed to enter their children to the same school. Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam yesterday instructed Education officials to take prompt action in this regard.

Accordingly all teachers who complete three years service at a National School will become eligible to enter their children to that particular National School to any Grade except Grades 1, 5, 6 and 11.

Meanwhile, measures have been taken to publish the available number of vacancies Grade wise in National Schools so as to allow teacher parents to apply for those vacancies.

Meanwhile teacher unions are warning that parents of schoolchildren would be unhappy that the prospects of their children entering National Schools would be blocked by this exercise since most of the vacancies would now be reserved for the children of teachers.
