Post-Easter violence perpetrators will be punished - PM

Legal action will be taken against all who had connections with the Easter Sunday extremist suicide attacks and related incidents, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament yesterday.

He said that 61 persons are currently detained while 167 suspects are in remand custody in connection with the bomb blasts. He said 39 persons have been arrested in connection with the Kuliyapitiya and Hettipola incidents after the attacks.

He also said that the relevant matters would be reported to the Courts and further action will be taken thereafter.

He made these observations responding to UNP MP S.M.Marikkar during the round of questions to be raised from the Prime Minister.

He said there was information that these arrested persons have had direct or indirect connections with the series of bomb blasts.

He added that a further 99 persons have been arrested on suspicion that they had involvement in these incidents too.

He added that investigations were continuing and promised that the culprits would be penalised.
