Customs seize 2,952 ecstasy pills

Another haul of methamphetamine (ecstasy) tablets has been detected by Customs staff attached to the Central Mail Exchange, yesterday.

A Sri Lankan aged 25 years from Mount Lavinia, who came to collect an air mail parcel, was apprehended with 2,952 ecstasy tablets valued at Rs.14,760,000. The drugs were concealed inside a foot massager.

The detection was made by Chandima Karunarathne, Deputy Superintendent of Customs. Investigations are being carried out under the instructions of Sunil Jayarathne, Additional Director-General of Custom and SASP Senanayaka, Director of Customs.

They are being carried out under the supervision of K.R.N. Bandara, Deputy Director of Customs; E. Sivagnanam, Superintendent of Customs; and the staff attached to the Central Mail Exchange.

Necessary assistance on the investigation have been provided by the Narcotics Control Unit of Customs.
