Navy arrests suspects illegally transporting iron

The navy, with the assistance of the police, carried out a joint raid on Monday to arrest three suspects who were illegally transporting iron from the Hambantota Harbour.

Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command, as well as Hambantota Police, conducted the special operation and arrested the suspects for illegally taking away 1,500kg of iron by lorry. The suspects are residents of the Ambalantota and Hambantota areas and are between the ages of 23 and 39.

The arrested persons, along with seized iron and lorry, were handed over to the Hambantota Police for further legal action.
