Arrested for vandalising school CCTV cameras

A person who allegedly removed the CCTV cameras installed at the Galle Gintota Maha Vidyalaya and dumped them in the Gin River was arrested by Galle Police recently.

The suspect is a resident of Vidanagoda in Gintota, Galle.

He had stolen the cameras in fear of revelation of a theft he had carried out at the school office.

A few days back, he had reportedly broken into the school office and stolen Rs.18,000. Although the cameras were removed, with help of the recordings of the CCTV system, police identified the suspect and arrested him.

The suspect is a neighbor of the school watcher and he had confessed to police that he carried out the theft on the request of the watcher.

The police tried to locate cameras dumped into the river with the help of divers, but could not be find them.
