Potato cultivations destroyed in drought: Jaffna Farmers request compensation

The Potato Farmers’ Organisation in Jaffna has made a request to the government to pay a compensation for their potato cultivation that extended over 2,600 hectares which was destroyed by the ongoing drought. Organisation Vice-Chairman S. Chandrasekeran said that the organisation made the request to the President, Prime Minister, and Opposition Leader.

He said Jaffna Parliamentarian Angajan Ramanathana, on being informed about the situation, visited several potato cultivations that have been destroyed.

“The remaining potato cultivation in the district may be destroyed due to the drought as well, if there is no rainfall within next two weeks,” he said.
