National Security Advisory Council appointed


A professional Advisory Council on National Security has been appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena. The council is headed by Parliamentarian and former minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama and comprises eminent lawyer Kalinga Indatissa PC, Nigel Hatch PC, former Ambassador Javed Yusuf, former presidential advisor Dr. Ram Manikkalingam and, Northern Province Governor Dr. Suren Raghavan.

The President’s Media Division communique said that the Advisory Committee met for the first time under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s official residence yesterday morning.

The President told the Advisory Council members that they could make their greatest contribution towards strengthening the programme implemented to ensure the country’s national security by submitting their ideas and proposals as an independent body.
