Glass paws to memorialize your furry pals

Whether you’re grieving a person or a pet, the death of a loved one is always hard to deal with. Although they’re gone, it can sometimes be comforting to have a physical reminder to keep close. That’s why Cameron Davenport of Davenport Memorial Glass creates memorial glass art infused with real ashes.

Davenport has been glass blowing since 2003, but made his first memorial piece in 2015 when he decided to try and infuse his good friend Johnny’s ashes into a marble. “I was tired of making the same things as everyone else and wanted to offer something more meaningful,” he tells My Modern Met. “It’s still one of my favorite pieces of glass I’ve ever made.”

Although he began working with human ashes, Davenport is now particularly popular for his memorial pet paws. Each beautiful keepsake incorporates a teaspoon of ashes provided by the customer, which is then worked into the glass “like flour in dough.” The glass artist turns the organic material into swirling marble which is then welded into a paw shape. While his process is tedious, the results are definitely worth it. Each colorful glass paw is a beautiful reminder of your cat or dog that you can bring with you wherever you go.

“Our goal is to physically capture a moment, to create a keepsake that brings back a memory.” says Davenport.

“Nothing will compare to the time spent with your loved one, but we hope to aid in treasuring them and remembering the precious time you had together.”

If you’d like to commemorate your loved one in glass art, you can place an order through Davenport’s website. To send the ashes safety, he suggests using a padded envelope.
