Fourth JWG meeting held in New Delhi

The fourth meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Cooperation in Power Sector between India and Sri Lanka was held on June, 24 at the Ashok Hotel in New Delhi, India. The Indian delegation was led by Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Power, Ajay Kumar Bhalla; while the Sri Lankan delegation was led by Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy, Dr. B.M.S. Batagoda.

The JWG took note of the progress on the decisions of the third JWG meeting held in Sri Lanka in 2018 and reviewed the progress of the proposed projects on Liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be developed by a joint venture between the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in Kerawalapitiya, and the Solar Power Projects in Sampur, Trincomalee.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India, Austin Fernando; Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, Rakitha Jayawardana; Vice-Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, R. Selvarajah; Minister of the Sri Lanka High Commission, Upekkha Samarathunga; as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy and Ceylon Electricity Board; were among the members of the Sri Lankan delegation.

The fifth JWG is scheduled to be held in 2020 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
