Army provides water to needy residents

The army has launched a programme to provide water to the drought-stricken residents of Kilinochchi, recently.

According to statistics at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat, 43,284 families in the district have been affected by drought and have no access to drinking water.

Residents had complained that the water provided by the Pradeshiya Sabha and other government institutions was insufficient.

Following this, the army had taken steps to provide water to needy villagers using water bowsers.

The programme is being carried out under the supervision of Kilinochchi Security Forces Commander Major General Vijitha Ravipriya.
