Kelaniya University’s National E-learning Resource Centre recently introduced the first online animated educational programme based on interactive multimedia to produce IT professionals for the country.

The online programme E-Lankapura aims to build a workforce of 200,000 in the field of IT by 2022. The programme seeks to provide youth who do not get a chance to enter university with an IT course they could follow online in order to become professionals in that sector.

“The objective of this project is to provide computer literacy to the younger generation to promote the creation of e-citizens in Sri Lanka,” said Dr. Kaushalya Yatigammana of Kelaniya University’s National E-learning Resource Centre.

This project is being implemented with the collaboration of ICT Industry Skills Council Sri Lanka.

E-Lankapura is a student-centered learning tool which will overcome the shortcomings in current online systems as it includes blended learning material such as audios, videos and interactive activities, providing users an opportunity to learn by themselves.

Here the lessons are taught as a story, followed by a Help video. Students can watch the story and learn from the Help video and practise what they learnt in the activities.
