UPFA’s Chanaka hails 1900 Suwasariya

Hambantota District UPFA Parliamentarian D.V. Chanaka said he appreciated and valued the 1900 Suwasariya Ambulance service launched countrywide by the government and the SLPP government formed in the future will further boost this programme.

He was speaking at a meeting in Kotawaya, Angunukolapelessa, on July 3. The UPFA Parliamentarian said it was vital for a newly elected government to formulate urgent plans to develop the country. But the present government had only been engaged in formulating plans for the last four years without executing them.

He said this government would be sent packing within the next three to four months. Instead of launching development work, what this government has done was only to stall development projects launched by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Hambantota Port built by Mahinda Rajapaksa has been sold to China and the Mattala Airport was used as a paddy warehouse.

The opening of the Hambantota Hospital has been delayed for four years. The equipment installed there has been transferred to the Polonnaruwa and Kalutara Hospitals. He alleged that the government did not provide sufficient funds for a majority of Pradeshiya Sabhas even for fuel supplies, because they are SLPP-controlled. When the SLPP formed a government, these local councils would receive adequate funds to develop the villages.

Angunukolapelessa Pradeshiya Sabha member P.H. Ariyaratne also spoke.
