Israel eager to provide agriculture expertise

Israeli Ambassador to Sri Lanka and India, Dr. Ron Malka yesterday said Sri Lanka could benefit from the agricultural expertise that Israel has.

“Israel is an agricultural technology hub and Sri Lanka wouldbenefit from our immense knowledge in this field,” he said.

Ambassador Dr. Malka who is based in New Delhi, during a brief interaction with a group of journalists in Colombo yesterday, said Israel has made many cost-effective innovations in agriculture technology.

“Mutual understanding between the two nations is growing and there is huge potential for cooperation in almost every sector,” he said

He said Israel is ready to share its expertise in the water management, agriculture and other fields with Sri Lanka. “We consider Sri Lanka a true friend.”

“We have made vast strides in the fields of agriculture and dairy farming which are very important to Sri Lanka. Israel has effectively dealt with food security and water scarcity through the advancement of technology,” the Israeli envoy said.

He added Israeli tourists visiting Sri Lanka are increasing despite the Easter Sunday attacks.

“We are used to these types of attacks. Israel’s travel advisory for Sri Lanka is same as it was before the attacks,” he said. The Israeli envoy said many countries altered their travel advisories on Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks. Israel never changed its travel advisory on Sri Lanka because this country is a paradise for its citizens.

More Israelis visit Sri Lanka to spend their vacations and they call Sri Lanka a paradise because of its beautiful beaches, he said

Israeli tourists have shown more interest in visiting Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has become a very popular destination for Israeli tourists,” Ambssador Dr. Malka said.
