‘Art helps children grow’

Directing children towards aesthetic activities without limiting them to the curriculum will be helpful to create a sensitive generation for the future, Deputy General Manager in charge of Catholic Schools of the Colombo Archdiocese, Assistant Educational Director Rev. Father Gemunu Dias said.

He said the children’s creations which unite the heart and the soul showcases the genuineness and the creativity of the young generation.

Father Dias was speaking at the opening of the Art and Sculpture exhibition organised by the students of the Kiribathgoda Branch of OKI international School. The exhibition themed ‘UBUNTU - Voice without Words’ was organised by the Art Circle of the Kiribathogda branch of OKI International School, and was held at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery on Tuesday.

Father Dias and former Dean of the Faculty of Performing and Visual Arts, Prof. Ramywardena Podinilame participated as chief guests on this occasion, while Chairperson Nirmalee Saparamadu and the Board of Directors of the OKI international school network participated as the guests of honor.

More than 100 art and 50 sculptures by the students of the Art Circle were exhibited for sale and the funds received will be given to the child victims of the Katuwapitiya Easter Sunday bomb attack.
