GMOA writes to Speaker on Rajitha

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has sent a letter to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya requesting him to take action against the Health Minister for misleading Parliament, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

Speaking at a press conference at the GMOA headquarters in Colombo yesterday, he said the Health Minister has given a reply on June 7 to the question posed by JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake in connection with the organisers and sponsors of the Suwapathi Kirula ceremony held at Nelum Pokuna.

According to Dr. Aluthge, the Health Minister replied and stated in Parliament that it had been jointly organised by the WHO Sri Lanka Office and Health Trade Union Alliance and the total expenditure was Rs. 6,667,650.

But the invitation printed for the ceremony tells a totally different story and it says the ceremony is organised by the Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry. Therefore, the GMOA has written to the Speaker requesting him to take action against the irresponsible and misleading statement of the Health Minister, Dr. Aluthge said.
