Case against former Kotte Mayor fixed for July 30

The case filed against two persons including former Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Mayor Janaka Ranawaka under Computer Crimes Act was yesterday fixed for preliminary objections to be heard on July 30 by Colombo High Court.

In this case, the Attorney General (AG) had filed indictments against two accused Janaka Ranawaka, the former Mayor of the Kotte Municipal Council and Lasantha Roshan, a computer operator for intentionally securing unauthorized access to Kotte former Deputy Mayor Madura Vithana’s computer data base on or around July 17, 2013. The AG had filed indictments before Colombo High Court against the two accused under Section 3 of the Computer Crimes Act No. 24 of 2007.

When the matter came up before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tillekaratne, the defence sought further to raise preliminary objections against the indictments.
