Amith Weerasinghe’s case postponed

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalini Perera yesterday postponed the magisterial inquiry into allegations of promoting racial and religious hatred against Mahason Balakaya leader Amith Weerasinghe for August 20.

When the case was taken up before the court, the investigations officer was not present in court.

The Magistrate instructed the Kirulapana Police investigations officer to appear before the court on the next calling date and submit the progress report on the investigations.

Weerasinghe was arrested for allegedly posting content with racial and religious hatred on social media.

Filing a further report before court, the Kirulapana Police informed the court that the report pertaining to the mobile phones had not been received yet.

The Magistrate instructed the police to expedite investigations into the case.
