Evoking Olivia

Colombo International School, Kandy proudly presented Olivia, the Musical written by Malcom Sircom recently. The curtains rose with the song 'Orphans' sung by the actors and a meticulously choreographed dance that set the atmosphere, mood and background to the play.

This brillant and innovative show, set in Victorian times, traces the steps of Olivia, from downtrodden orphan to star of the stage. On her journey to the bright lights of London, she is befriended by Eliza Doolittle and, after a series of adventures, becomes a singer in a new Gilbert and Sullivan show, thanks to the unlikely assistance of Fagin and The Artful Dodager.

The most heart touching moment and the climax of the play was when Little Olivia finds her Mother. This can be mentioned as the climax of the play as delicate and beutiful Annie met her daughter after many years of separation.

The most spoken element was the 'improvisation' which was utilized by the actors at appropriate moments which hilighted their 'Personality' as well as contributed to the building of character as a whole.

The curtains rolled down to a beautiful melody sung by the entire choir. Thus the Students of the Junior School of CISK, showcased their skills in acting, dancing and singing after rehearsing for a time frame of three months.
