SLFEB seeks increased loan facilities for migrant workers

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) took measures to obtain low-interest increased loan facilities for migrant workers.

The SLFEB held a discussion with the Peoples’ Bank and the State Mortgage and Investment Bank last Thursday in this regard.

The SLFEB has proposed to the Peoples’ Bank to increase the pre-departure loan facility for migrant workers from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 500,000 and increase the housing loan facility for migrant workers from Rs. 250,000 to Rs. 500,000. It also sought to revive the self-employment loan facility up to Rs. 250,000 for migrant workers.

The SLEFB has proposed to the State Mortgage and Investment Bank to increase the amount of its existing housing loan facility.

The SLFEB in a press statement said the representatives of both the banks reacted positively to the requests. “It was agreed to implement the above loan schemes under lenient conditions for the benefit of migrant workers,” the statement added.
