‘Printing textbooks unnecessary, tabs will do’

It will be unnecessary to print textbooks which are given by the government for schoolchildren from Grade 6 to Grade 9 as they will be provided with tablet computers in the near future, said Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam yesterday.

Kurunegala District UNP Parliamentarian and Minister Kariyawasam was speaking at a media conference held in Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala.

“Hence, the use of written documents and taking down notes in exercise books will be minimised. Advanced Level students and teachers will receive about 100,000 high-quality tabs with a three-year guarantee at the beginning of the long-term project. Brand new tabs which will be bought by the Education Ministry will be given to students within the next two months,” the Minister said.
