Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar summons President’s former Chief of Staff

The Permanent High Court trial at bar yesterday issued summons on the President’s former Chief of Staff Kusumdasa Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation (STC) Chairman P.Dissanayaka to appear in court on July 8. This is for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs.540 million and accepting another Rs. 20 million from an Indian investor who wants to acquire a section of the Kantale sugar factory.

The Director General of the Bribery Commission had filed indictments against the two accused under 24 counts for allegedly committing offences punishable under Section 19 (b), (c), 25(2) and 25(3) of the Bribery Act.

The two accused were arrested at a car park of a luxury hotel in Colombo on May 3, 2018 by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 million.

The Bribery Commission had named 46 individuals as witnesses and further listed 41 items as production items in the case.
