19th Amendment, President’s legitimate child - Opposition Leader

Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the 19th Amendment to the Constitution is a ‘legitimate child of President Maithripala Sirisena’.

He was speaking to the media during a visit to Matara on Friday.

“The President was involved in bringing the 19th Amendment. Now, he has understood that the country cannot be governed by two powerhouses. The power should concentrate on one centre. There should either be a Parliamentary system or a Presidential system. That is my opinion. Under the 18th Amendment, there was a stable government. There was no monarchy as some claimed,” the Opposition Leader said.
