Police to launch investigation into railway strike

The Fort Police has launched a special investigation against Sri Lanka Railways employees who are continuing their work stoppage despite the railway service being declared an Essential Service under Emergency regulations through a Gazette Extraordinary on Thursday.

The investigation report is due to be submitted to the Attorney General in the next few weeks.

Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando lodged a complaint at the Colombo Fort Police over the strike action by the Sri Lanka Railways employee unions in defiance of the ‘Essential service’ order. In his complaint, Fernando said that legal action should be taken by the police against station masters, guards, drivers and controllers who are on strike in violation of the Essential Services Act.
