The CEA conducted a raid on a banned lunch sheet manufacturing factory located in Malgala, Padukka, jointly with the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) and Police special Unit of the CEA on June 26.

When the raid was conducted, the factory was in operation and lunch sheets were being manufactured using HDPE, LDPE materials and calcium. Four extruder machines (15Hp and 10 each), three cutting machines (2Hp each) and two mixtures were being used for the production process.

CEA officials found that the factory did not possess any kind of approval including the Environmental Protection Licence (EPL) and Trade Licence. This industry has violated the National Environmental Act since there is no valid EPL and manufactures HDPE lunch sheets in contradiction with Regulation No. 2034/34 of September 1, 2017. The CEA is pursuing legal action against the accused in the Avisswella Magistrate’s Court for these two charges.

Half a ton of lunch sheets was seized by the CAA and transported to the Dompe Sanitary Landfill Site until the Magistrate’s order is received for disposal. The seized stock is worth Rs. 500,000. The company is owned by a person in Galagedara, Padukka. The products are sold to wholesale traders in People’s Park, Colombo.
