Opposition Leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said whatever other election is postponed, they would never allow the Presidential Election due at the end of this year to be postponed.
He said they will never relent in putting forward a patriotic-minded and principled candidate to contest the Presidential Election and ensure his victory with the support of all people in the country. Former President Rajapaksa was speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Nidahas Kala Sandhanaya in Panadura on Tuesday.
He said the only way to change the present situation in the country to a positive direction was to hold elections on time. Nothing good could be done for the country by postponing elections.
He recalled the tax relief granted to artistes during the previous regime and added that he was unaware as to who made use of those relief measures.
A future government established by them would grant more relief measures to artistes and others in the cultural sector, the former President said.
Parliamentarians Bandula Gunawardena, Wimal Weerawansa and Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Nidahas Kala Sandhanaya President Sudath Rohana also spoke.
