Man stabs dog over property dispute

A man reportedly stabbed and killed his brother-in-law’s pet dog in a drunken rage over a property dispute in the Hakmana area on Monday. He was later remanded for displaying cruelty to animals.The Hakmana Police, following a complaint made to Hakmana Police by Kalutotage Nandasena (60) of Kahatagahahene, arrested the suspect perpetrator and produced him before the Deiyandara Magistrate and Additional District Judge Mrs. Lushaka Kumari Dharmakeerthi on June 18.

The complainant stated that the suspect, who is his brother-in-law resident in Udupeellagoda, who is a party to a legal dispute regarding family property, arrived at his house on June 17 night in a state of intoxication armed with a knife. As they saw him approaching they went inside the house and locked the house doors.

The suspect, in his anger, had stabbed the pet dog tethered nearby, a domestic ‘German Shepherd’ dog, and killed it before making his getaway.

Police investigations are continuing directed by Hakmana Police OIC, Inspector Nalin Weerawardena.
