Suspect illegally transporting conch shells arrested

Naval personnel apprehended a suspect illegally transporting conch shells by illegal means in the Talaimannar area on June 18.

A group of naval personnel attached to the North-Central Naval area had intercepted a cab en route from Talaimannar to Pesalai at a roadblock in Talaimannar and apprehended a suspect transporting 1,645 conch shells in a pickup truck.

During further interrogation, naval personnel managed to find another 2,372 conch shells in the house of the suspect. The suspect is a resident of Pesalai in Mannar. He is 51 years old.

The suspect, along with the stock of conch shells as well as the vehicle, was handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Mannar for onward action.
