NSB with HelpAge conducts medical camps

 One of the most people friendly premier savings banker, the National Savings Bank (NSB) recently conducted its 45th Mobile Medical and Eye Camp at Dampe, Piliyandala in collaboration with HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL).

This is another giant step taken by NSB through its CSR initiative to conduct a free Medical and Eye Camp for less privileged Senior Citizens in the country.

Accordingly, from 45 camps, conducted by NSB during the period commencing from 2016 up to date, over 9000 senior citizens island-wide received free medical and eye care services including Cataract Surgeries.

HelpAge records indicate that medical camps were conducted in the districts of Kurunegala, Kandy, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Hambantota, Ampara, Badulla, Galle, Kegalle , Gampaha, Matara, Moneragala and Anuradhapura.

In addition to free cataract surgeries, HelpAge provided the needy elders with bifocal and reading spectacles.

The NSB Management conduct its Medical Camps at temple premises following requests made by the Senior Citizens Committees in the areas and also devotees who attend the usual religious observances.

The Piliyandala Medical Camp was conducted with the participation of over 900 persons and among them 20 persons were referred to HelpAge Eye Hospital at Wellawatte for free cataract surgeries.

Commenting on the progarmme , NSB, Chairman S.N. Wickramasinghe highly admired the valuable service rendered by HelpAge towards a needy sector in the society to improve their health facilities.

HASL, Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge said the free cataract surgeries are conducted at HelpAge Eye Hospital, Wellawatte. HelpAge also provide them with free disabled equipment and also help elderly citizens and their kith and kin during catastrophic situations to enhance their quality of lives.

The Executive Director further said that HelpAge expects similar donations from other banks as well, as prospective donors to fund towards the increasing demand for free cataract surgeries.
