Clarification | Daily News

Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) General Manager Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumara said he was referring to Negombo beach and not Negombo lagoon when he spoke of erosion due to sea sand mining for construction of the Port City.

He said therefore it has no relevance to the Port City Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.

Dr. Pradeep Kumara also said the risk of pollution from Port City sewerage is if sewerage is not properly treated before it is discharged to the sea.

He made these clarifications with reference to the Daily News article titled ‘Negombo Lagoon facing erosion due to sand mining – MEPA’ published on June 11.
