A crime suspect who was detained in a cell of the Colombo Crime Division has died after being admitted to the Genaral hospital due to sudden illness.
He was arrested with 1 gram of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine) in Nagahamulla by the Colombo Crime Division on Saturday. While he was detained in the cell, the suspect had informed Police officers on duty that just prior to his arrest, he had swallowed a second packet of ‘Ice’ that had been in his possession. Accordingly, he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, where he is understood to have succumbed to the ‘Ice’ drug overdose.
The deceased was identified as Nawagamuwage Ruwan Sanjeewa Perera a 38 year-old, resident of Wellampitiya. The body is at the Colombo National Hospital and post mortem examination was carried out yesterday. Colombo Crime Division is investigating.
