Tri-forces search temples as they wish – Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera

Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) General Secretary Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said the Tri-forces did not obtain permission to search temples in 1971 and 1989 and questioned why there is different procedure to search mosques now.

The Thera was addressing the participants of a book launch at the D.A.Rajapaksa Foundation recently.

Two books written by Ven.Puselle Rathanajothi Thera were launched on the occasion.

The Thera said the Tri-forces cannot search mosques because the Inspector General of Police has released an order not to take sniff dogs into mosques.”There should not be two sets of rules to two different places of worship,” the Thera said.

Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said pandals and other decorations were not exhibited during the Vesak because the government could not provide adequate protection for the people.

“If the Tri-forces lack personnel, some more should be enrolled,” the Thera said. “Temples do not have the privileges that the mosques have,” the Thera said.
