Former naval officer granted bail

A former naval officer who was held in remand custody on the charge of aiding and abetting the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in 2008 and 2009 was yesterday ordered to be released under strict bail conditions by the Colombo High Court.

The suspect, Sanjeewa Prabhath Senaratne, was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs.150,000 with two sureties of one million rupees. He was severely warned not to interfere with witnesses in case and further ordered to appear before CID on every Saturday. Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendi made this order after taking into consideration a revision application filed by the suspect challenging Colombo Fort Magistrate’s decision to reject bail on the suspect on several occasions. The missing persons had been abducted by an unidentified group at Dehiwala, Battaramulla and Wattala in 2008 and 2009. 


Disappearance of 11 youth: Navy officer released on bail (15:09)

Navy officer  Sanjeewa Prasad, who was in remand custody in connection with the abduction and forced disappearance of 11 youth has been released on bail under strict conditions by the Colombo High Court.

The High Court Judge ordered for the 11th suspect in the case to be released on 02 surety bails of Rs. 1,000,000 each and a cash bail of Rs. 150,000.
