‘Government ensured country’s security’

The Government has taken all measures to ensure the security of the country, said Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa.

The Minister was speaking at a meeting after opening the 196th model village Muppane Rateralagama in Marava, Moneragala recently.

Minister Premadasa said foreign armies will not be brought into the country and the government is more than capable of protecting the motherland.

He said President Maithripala Sirisena acclaimed the slain leaders of the Wellassa rebellion that took place 200 years ago as patriotic leaders.

The Minister said the patriots safeguard and develop the country but some politicians who claim that they are patriots robbed the Treasury. “They are not patriots but traitors,” he said.

“The government will build 20,000 houses by the end of 2025 in four stages and 2,319 houses were completed under the first stage,“ he said. He said the National Housing Development Authority allocated Rs. 17,000 million in four years to construct houses for the homeless keeping a record.

Muppane Rateralagama has 23 housing units worth Rs: 27.6 million with pipe borne water and electricity. Soduru Piyasa housing loans were granted for 60 beneficiaries and kidney patients and 50 ‘Shilpa Saviya’ trainees were granted money and visually impaired persons were given spectacles.

Public Administration and Rural Economic Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Uva Provincial Member Jayasinghe Bandara and Moneragala District Secretary D.S. Padmakulasooriya spoke. Moneragala Divisional Secretary Prageeth Kulathilaka and Director of the Moneragala National Housing Development Nimal Rajasinghe participated.
