‘Discontinue summoning of parents for school security’

The Ceylon Teachers’ Union said that school principals had not yet been officially informed of the Education Minister’s instructions to stop summoning parents for security purposes.

The Education Minister told the media that there was no further need to summon parents to assure the safety of schoolchildren as the Civil Security Force and the police had been deployed for the purpose, a union spokesman said.

“However, the principals of schools have not yet been informed in writing. Therefore, there is a dispute between parents and principals at some schools about the summoning of parents to assure the safety of schoolchildren,” he said.

The Ceylon Teachers’ Union urged the authorities to take immediate steps to discontinue the summoning of parents for school security purposes.
