JVP public protests from today

The JVP has organised a series of public protests from today to dislodge the government, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said.

He was speaking at a press conference at the JVP Head Office on Monday.

“The government came into power to stop frauds, corruption and waste. It promised to catch thieves, establish democracy and abolish the Executive Presidency. It has forgotten all those promises. Allowing the government to remain in power will be very harmful to the country and its people. The government, which failed to fulfill its pledges for the last four years, will never take the country forward. It should resign immediately,” he said.

“At the next Presidential Election, we will field a strong presidential candidate who will truly represent the people. We invite the leftist and progressive political groups to join the JVP. The JVP has sought to abolish the Executive Presidency. The Presidential Election will be held in the next few months. We will announce our position regarding a presidential candidate in the future,” he said.
