The Zonal Athletic Championship of the Central Province was concluded on May 31 at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy organized by the Department of Education, CP.
This four day meet was held with the participation of over 1500 Athletes. Both boys and girls of over 50 schools took part in the events.
The Boys Championship was won by Trinity College, Kandy, collecting 267 points. The runners-up were St. Sylvesters College collecting 212 points and the third plave was bagged by Dharmaraja College with 194 points.
The Girls Championship was won by Girls’ High School, Kandy with 237 points. Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, clinched the runners up title with 162 points. Swarnamalie Balika came third with 150 points.
The Prize distribution was held under the patronage of M.W.Wijeratne, Zonal Director of the Dept. of Education (CP). Ven.Madugalle Pangnasagara Thera, S.Jayaprakash, M.Ameer,W.Jayasuriya, Deepthi Priyadarshanie, all Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of the Department of Education along with the Principal of Girls High School, Kandy, Malkanthi Abeygunasekera.
