SIS chief briefs CID on intel failure

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) unit probing the Easter Sunday bombing intelligence failure yesterday recorded a statement from the head of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Deputy Inspector General of Police Nilantha Jayawardena. The CID is inquiring into the alleged failure of various officers to adequately act on the intelligence information about potential terror strikes prior to the April 21st attack.

According to CID sources, SIS chief Jayawardena had been extensively questioned on the process followed when alerting the responsible officers and authorities on the potential for terrorist attacks.

CID sources disclosed that in his statement, DIG Jayawardena had provided vital

information useful to the CID investigation.

So far, the CID has recorded statements from over 10 high ranking Police officers, including retired DIG Sisira Mendis, in relation to this investigation.
