To coincide with World Environment Day which fell yesterday (June 5), officers and sailors attached to the Southern Naval Command volunteered to clean the beach adjacent to Galle Dutch Fort.

Going by the directives of the President, a National Environment Week has been declared to encourage people to be more green-activists. Therefore, this year’s Environment Day is celebrated under the theme of ‘Reducing Air Pollution through Sustainable Forest Management’.

As such, a series of programmes has been implemented across the country with the involvement of Tri-Forces, Police and state sector employees to create an environmentally-friendly community.
