Parliamentarian Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera who was hospitalised on Monday after ending a four-day fast, discharged himself from the Kandy Teaching Hospital yesterday afternoon.

Hospital Director Dr R.M. Saman Ratnayake said the Thera received treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on Monday and was later transferred to a special ward where the clergy are treated.

“Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera suffered severe hydration and abdominal pain and was finding it difficult to pass urine. After an improvement in his health condition, he decided to discharge himself at around 1.00 pm.”

On Friday (31), Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera began a protest fast near the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, demanding the removal of Rishad Bathiudeen from his ministerial post and Azath Salley and M.L.A.M. Hizbullah from their governorships.
