Six months RI for former Railway employee

Galle Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana sentenced an accused who pleaded guilty of placing stones and obstructing a train crossing near the Gintota Railway Station, to six months rigorous imprisonment.

He had obstructed the movement of trains by placing stones at the mechanical installation.He was finedRs. 3,000.The magistrate subsequently suspended the jail term for five years. The punishment order was delivered upon a retired railway employee identified as Kankanamge Pemadasa. The respondent had been found to have done the same illegal act and obstructing the crossing of trains on several times about which the Gintota Station Master had complained to the Railway Protection Force.

The Railway Protection Force had apprehended the respondent in the act near the Gintota Railway station. Investigations revealed that he had carried the out the same unlawful act on several other occasions.

The Railway Protection Force had charged him for obstructing the railroad crossing and thereby causing damage to state property and imposing threats to the railway commuters.

Sergeants Sisira Kumara (90858) Ajith Prasanna (91016), Ananda Lal (90934) W.A Deepani (91159) and Nilusha (91153) arrested the suspect and prosecuted.
