Patali visits Rathana Thera

Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka met with Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera yesterday while he was on the hunger strike at the Sri Dalada Maligawa premises, to inquire about his wellbeing.

Ven. Rathana Thera was on a hunger strike demanding the removal of the Eastern Province and Western Province Governors Hizbullah and Asath Sally and Industry and Commerce Ministry Rishad Bathiudeen.

Subsequent to visiting Ven. Rathana Thera, Minister Ranawaka, speaking to the media said, “If there are allegations against the two governors and the minister, an investigation needs to be carried out. We met with the President and urged him to intervene in this issue and carry out an investigation.”

“If they are found to be innocent of the allegations they could be released of all charges, but if they are found guilty of the allegations against them, they should face the consequences. The whole country is suffering great pain and distress over these incidents and if action is not taken fast, it could escalate into clashes. Therefore, we expect that the President will mediate and resolve this issue before it gets out of hand.”

Meanwhile, Minister Ranawaka had met with President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss the issues which led the Thera to initiate this hunger strike.

He had told the President that at this point it was vital to pay heed to the concerns of the people and Ven. Rathana Thera. Minister Ranawaka noted that he expects a positive response from the President soon.
