Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith visited Ven. Rathana Thera who was on his fourth day of hunger strike opposite the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy yesterday.

The Thera was demanding the removal of Eastern Province Governor M. L. A. M. Hizbullah, Western Province Governor Azath Sally and Commerce and Industry Minister Rishad Bathiudeen. Rathana Thera had vowed to continue his fast until the President takes measures to grant his demands.

Subsequent to inquiring about Rathana Thera’s health and wellbeing, the Reverend Cardinal speaking to the media, said that a proper investigation had yet not been done regarding the Easter Sunday attacks.

“Rathana Thera commenced this fast for the people who were killed and injured during the Easter Sunday attacks. He had commenced this fast having found out the true information regarding this incident. We have yet not been told who was behind these attacks and who supported and assisted in these attacks.

I don’t think that justice has been meted out to the victims of the Easter Sunday bombings so far. Authorities are simply chasing behind a handful of officials such as the IG and Defence Secretary. However, they have so far not investigated who had indirectly assisted these terror elements. No proper investigation has been done so far and I feel that a comprehensive investigation must be done to reveal those who had assisted in these terrorists,” Rev. Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith told the media after meeting Rathana Thera.
